Tesla has released its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. However, the company faces massive competition from other players like Waymo and Zoox. The stakes can’t get higher for the battle for supremacy in AI innovation.
Tesla recently unveiled its robotaxi service in Austin, marking a significant milestone. “Super congratulations to the software and chip design teams on a spectacular launch!” Musk proudly announced on X.
It features the Model Y sport utility vehicle. Not the Cybercab, which remains in the developmental stage. For now, the company will only be deploying a fleet of just 10 to 20 vehicles.
This is due to the fact that they want to showcase that their cars can navigate through the real-world traffic. It is interesting to note that other robotaxi services are releasing their products in Austin, Waymo.
Some of them include the Alphabet’s driverless car division, which is ramping up operations. They are partnering with Uber. Meanwhile, Amazon’s Zoox is having its own tests in the area. Tesla’s shares went up more than 9% on Monday.
This was due to the release of its long-awaited robotaxi service. The company has managed to make inroads in the groundbreaking technology. Besides, CEO Elon Musk has championed to the cause of the product.
This marks the first time that their self-driving taxis have transported paying passengers without human drivers. The rides were offered for an affordable rate of $4.20 within a particular area. The success is vital for the company.
