I do use AI tools daily, from smartwatches to ChatGPT, but I have recently realized that these tools may collect information about us. Even simple devices like smart speakers or fitness trackers can gather data on a day-to-day basis.
AI platforms usually track our patterns without our consent. Whether we are chatting with an AI or scrolling through Social Media, all our actions like clicks, and the time we spend are all used to create detailed profiles about us. This information is later used to predict our actions or target us with advertisements.
The main reason behind this is, we are not always told that how our data is being utilized. The long privacy policies are always full of confusing language. Most of us skip to reading them and by default, it means that we agreed to things without realizing the risks.
Smart devices like speakers and fitness bands can collect health and voice data. Some of the brands send the voice recordings to the cloud by default. Also, in most cases, these features are hard to turn off. The data that is collected can either be sold or shared.
Though AI tools make our lives easier, they come with hidden privacy about which we are all not very aware. The best practice is to use them mindfully and avoid sharing personal or important details. It is also safe to always check the settings. Staying aware is staying safe.
